About the story

Long ago, the devas and asuras churned the great Ocean of Milk to find amrit, the nectar of strength. With Mount Mandara as their churning stick and Vasuki the serpent king as their rope, they pulled and pulled. But the first thing to rise was not nectar. It was halahala, a poison so dark it could harm all the worlds.

Only one could help.

This is the story of how Lord Shiva drank the poison to save everyone, and how he came to be called Neelkanth, the one with the blue throat.
